Look who’s talking

March and April 2012 Program

I obtained permission from Cindy Valentine to reprint the Autumn Splendor materials list in our newsletter. You can download a PDF of the list <here> The needlebook and scissors fob together call for nine different fibers, all of them in small quantities. I’ve marked the general weights of her suggested fibers to make it easer for anyone who wants to swap fibers.  Cindy says that the project is ideal for anyone who wants to share fibers with another stitcher or to do it as a stash-reduction project.

Autumn Splendor was the “Designers Across America” project in the September 2011 issue of Needle Arts. The instructions were available from the national office until the end of December. If you ordered the instructions, then you’re “good to go” for the project. If you didn’t order the instructions, you’re not out of luck. Cindy agreed that the chapter could reproduce her instructions provided that anyone who wanted the instructions made a $7.50 donation to EGA. So, our treasurer will be collecting donations at the February and March meetings and copies of the instructions will be available at those meetings, too.

February 2012 Program

The program will be on ribbon embroidery. I will bring several sizes of ribbon, in several colors and ground fabric for practice.  I will provide a pattern and instructions to complete a project that will use the stitches demonstrated.  Those interested should bring a 5″ hoop, a chenille needle size 18 to 22 or other sharp needle with a large eye and scissors.  I will have books available for purchase and A Stitchers Dream carries silk ribbon for those who wish to do more. There will be no charge for the demonstration. I would like to have some idea of the number interested so that I bring enough supplies.

Our 17th Anniversary Dinner

The theme for our dinner will be “High Tea with You and Me” and the menu will be just that: tea sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, mini desserts and tea.  Hats and gloves are optional, but a prize will be given for the “best hat.”  PLEASE BRING YOUR VERY BEST CHINA CUP AND SAUCER. This will be a very entertaining evening.  The deadline for reservations is our April 10 meeting and checks will have to be to our treasurer by that date.

We don’t know the cost yet, but as soon as we do, it will be posted here and announced at upcoming meetings

Special Announcement for the November 8 Meeting

THIS MONTH ONLY

The second Tuesday meeting is being held at the Tangerine Improvement Society on Wright Road just off of Orange Blossom Trail.  As you head south (towards Orlando) on 441 past Mt. Dora, you’ll go over Route 46, and pass a Circle K on the right, then a Chevron on the left and then JUST AFTER the feed store on the left you’ll see Wright Road.  I’ll try and put a fluorescent green sign out that just says EGA.

Our November class will be a Teneriffe lace project taught by JeanD.  Teneriffe is a wonderful, easy type of embroidery I know you’ll love.  Please bring a 6″ MINIMUM hoop and Aida fabric 3 or 4 inches LARGER than the hoop you choose and one color of floss.  Don’t forget your usual stitching supplies as well.

Also, on November 8 you’ll have to pay for your December Holiday meal.  We need final counts and cannot wait until the last minute, so come with your $14 and think about the wonderful meal AliceW has planned.

CaroleK will also have the patterns for the kissing pillows should you choose to do one or more.  These must be back to her BEFORE THE DECEMBER 13 party so she can get them shipped to Pennsylvania by the deadline for the troops.  Carole will be stitching the patriotic fabric on the back so you don’t have to, so please be considerate and get them to her by the 13th.

The December meeting is also our ornament exchange!  YAY! Bring a special ornament to participate in our Chinese exchange.  We will only be “stealing/trading” twice.

Moonlight Sonata -- Our 2011 GCC

CaroleK has agreed to be the leader for our 2011 Group Correspondence Course.  Students will meet once a month for five months in the clubhouse at CaroleK’s community.  Contact her or Threadbender for directions.  Class will be held from 9:30AM to 12Noon.  A refrigerator is available for anyone who wants to bring their lunch and stitch until 1:30PM

Meeting will be held on

September 12, 2011
October 24, 2011
December 5, 2011
January 16, 2012
February 27, 2012

JenniferN will collect the pieces for teacher comment.  Students wishing to have the teacher comment on their work should give it to JenniferN before March 15, 2012

Pictures from the 2010 Retreat

Over the weekend of November 12 thru 14, some Chain Stitchers decamped to the Florida Carriage Museum and Resort for our Third (!) annual retreat.

The weather was wonderful — cool nights, warm days, lots of sunshine, just what you hope for in Florida in autumn.

The food was fantastic.  Everyone brought two ready-to-eat (or reheat) dishes, so we never had to cook and we never had to leave out retreat.

We talked and got to know one another better; we laughed and played games; we embroidered and we took pictures
